Second Annual MidState Jr. Sharks Hockey Clinic A Success

WORCESTERThe Second Annual MidState Jr. Sharks Hockey Clinic, held at the Horgan Arena in Auburn on Thursday, Feb. 7, was a rousing success as 260 youngsters ages 4-16 had the opportunity to practice under the tutelage of their favorite Worcester Sharks.

“I cannot express enough how much the MidState organization appreciates the coaches, players, and of course [Sharks Director of Youth Hockey and Community Relations] Mike Myers for coming out to Auburn for the clinics,” President of MidState Junior Sharks Dan Mahony said. “Roughly 50% of the kids in our house and travel programs were able to participate, which is a tremendous turnout!”

“I have received extremely positive feedback from parents and players already asking when we can do it again,” he continued.

Sharks assistant coach David Cunniff was joined by goaltender Taylor Dakers, defenseman Derek Joslin, and forward T.J. Fox from 4-6 p.m. The mites were on the ice until 5:00, while the squirts took their turn from 5-6:00.

The second shift was from 6-8 p.m. as head coach Roy Sommer, forwards Mike Iggulden and Riley Armstrong, and defenseman Marc Busenburg helped teach the bantams the first hour and the peewees and midgets the second hour.

The Sharks continue their six-game road swing on Wednesday when they travel to Bridgeport for a matchup with the Sound Tigers. They then head to Norfolk for single games against the Admirals on Friday and Saturday.

All home and away games can be heard live on 580 WTAG, as well as online through B2 Networks, by following the link on the Sharks website at www.sharksahl.com.

Worcester returns to the DCU Center on Friday, Feb. 22, for a 3-in-3 weekend, with all three games on home ice. Friday’s matchup features Lowell, with Portland skating into town on Saturday and the Springfield Falcons wrapping up the weekend with an 8:05pm start on Sunday the 24th
