Greiss Goes Pink for Month of October

WORCESTER - For the month of October, the Sharks No. 1 goaltending prospect and 2006 German Olympian Thomas Greiss is going Pink at the Rink to support Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Thomas Greiss will be wearing a specially designed Pink Sharks goalie mask for the remaining four games in October to highlight the Sharks involvement with Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Greiss will be the first professional hockey goaltender to sport a pink mask for the month of October. This special mask, which is a mirror image of Greiss’ regular mask, is Pink with swimming sharks and has a Pink Ribbon on the front. The back of the mask dawns a Sharks Charities logo with Sharks Charities Chairwoman Mary C. Defeudis’ signature. At the end of October, the Pink mask will be auctioned off with the proceeds going to the Hope Lodge via Sharks Charities.

The American Cancer Society's Hope Lodge is a home away from home for cancer patients and their families who must travel to gain access to cancer treatment not available where they live. The Lodge is located at 7 Oak St., near Worcester's Elm Park. Lodging and transportation to and from treatment are provided at no cost. Money raised during the month of October will help fund the program.

“The Worcester Sharks wanted to do something different,” said Sharks President and CEO Michael Lehr. “Thomas was very gracious to agree to wear the mask and by him doing so, the Sharks will drum up awareness for the month and help support the Hope Lodge.”

The mask was designed and painted by the Worcester Sharks Manager of Youth Hockey and Community Relations, Michael Myers. Myers has designed and painted several masks, including Conn Smythe Winner Cam Ward of the Carolina Hurricanes and Edmonton Oilers Goaltender Dwayne Roloson.

The Sharks will be hosting “Pink at the Rink” when they play the Providence Bruins on Sunday, October 21st at 4p.m. Sharks Center and 2006-07 “Man of the Year” Riley Armstrong will be making a special announcement at the game. Sharks fans may purchase two tickets and two Pink autograph pucks for $40 with a portion of the proceeds to be donated to the Hope Lodge via Sharks Charities.
