San Jose Recalls All-Star Forward Mathieu Darche
February 14, 2007
SAN JOSE – San Jose Sharks Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Wilson announced today that the club has recalled forward Mathieu Darche from Worcester, the Sharks top development affiliate in the American Hockey League.
Worcester’s lone representative in the 2007 AHL All-Star Classic in Toronto, Darche has played in all 51 games for Worcester this season and has compiled 53 points (25 goals, 28 assists) with a plus-four player rating. His 53 points have him tied for 12th in the AHL scoring race.
In addition to his team-leading 53 points, Darche owns four Worcester Sharks franchise records. The gritty forward scored the first ever Worcester Sharks goal in Portland (Oct. 6), scored the first goal on home ice against Portland (Oct. 14), recorded the first hat trick in team history against Manchester (Dec. 22) and holds the record for most points in a game with five (3+2=5) against Manchester (Dec. 22).
The Montreal native was signed as a free agent by the San Jose Sharks on July 10, 2006.
In a related move, the Sharks reassigned goaltender Nolan Schaefer to the Hershey Bears of the AHL. Schaefer dressed in four games since his recall on Feb. 2, but did not see any action.
