Miele’s shot broke off the shoulder of Harri Sateri and bounced into the net. The goal was originally waved off, but after instant replay the goal was counted and the Pirates grabbed a 1-0 lead.
Portland would score twice more in the middle frame as Rostislav Klesla (1st) scored his first career AHL goal after his shot from the center point found the back of the net at 7:49 and Andy Miele (9th) scored on the rush with a wicked shot from the right wing circle at 11:26 to put Portland ahead 3-0. Jimmy Bonneau (6th) fought Mark Louis (4th) at 16:17 as Bonneau tried to get his teammates going before the end of the period. The Sharks trailed 3-0 after 40 minutes but held a 20-16 shot advantage.
After Rylan Schwartz (3rd) got Worcester on the board early in the third period at 1:12 assisted by Freddie Hamilton and Travis Oleksuk, Andy Miele (10th) recorded the hat trick with a power play goal at 4:26 to give Portland a 4-1 lead. Jordan Martinook (4th) would end the scoring with a power play goal assisted by Chris Brown and Andy Miele at 10:30. A handful of penalties were whistled the rest of the way and featured a good fight between Curt Gogol (5th) and Kevin Veilleux (3rd) as the Sharks dropped their second straight game.
