Worcester, MA – Worcester Sharks president Michael A. Mudd announced today that the Worcester Sharks have signed Boston Garden Legend Rene Rancourt for a one game ATO (Anthem Tryout Agreement) when the Sharks host the Portland Pirates on Sunday, December 16 at 3pm at the DCU Center in Worcester.

Boston Garden Legend Rene Rancourt has agreed to a one game ATO (Anthem Tryout Agreement) and will perform the national anthem and sign autographs before the Sharks host the Portland Pirates on December 16 at 3pm at the DCU Center in Worcester.

“I would like to thank the Worcester Sharks for the opportunity to stay in shape during the NHL work stoppage,” said Rene Rancourt. “I look forward to get my vocal cords back in game shape in the AHL and look forward to making my Sharks debut at the DCU Center on December 16.”

“The Sharks are excited to have an NHL caliber voice singing the national anthem before the Sharks game on December 16,” said Mudd. “We are thrilled to give Rene Rancourt the opportunity to work on his famous fist pumps and salute at the DCU Center in Worcester.”

Rene Rancourt has become a face linked to Boston Bruins hockey, singing the anthem before home games for over 35 years. He began singing regularly for the Bruins in 1976 at the old Boston Garden. In addition, former contestant on NBC’s hit show ‘The Voice’ and Worcester native Sam James will perform during the first intermission on December 16. While competing on ‘The Voice,’ James worked with Adam Levine of Maroon 5 and his rendition of John Lennon’s classic hit “Imagine” peaked at #11 on the ITunes Rock Charts. James began performing at coffeehouses in Worcester at the young age of 15, molding his skills as a singer-songwriter. As word quickly spread of his talent, James had the opportunity of opening for established artists such as Third Eye Blind, Ingram Hill, and Chuck Berry.
