WORCESTER SHARKS RESIGN FORWARD JONATHAN CHEECHOO TO PTO
Cheechoo leads the Worcester Sharks with 26 points.
WORCESTER - Worcester Sharks General Manager Wayne Thomas announced today that the team has resigned forward Jonathan Cheechoo to a PTO (player try-out agreement). In keeping with club policy, financial terms of the deals were not disclosed.
Cheechoo has appeared in all 25 games for the Worcester Sharks this season, and leads the team with 26 points (9-17-26) and 75 shots on goal. Jonathan is currently tied for 10th in the AHL point scoring race.
Cheechoo, 30, attended the Dallas Stars training camp before signing with Worcester on October 6. The six-foot, 200-pound native of Moose Factory, Ontario has played in 501 regular season games in the NHL compiling 170 goals and 135 assists for a total of 305 points. He played 440 games with the San Jose Sharks recording 291 points (166-126-291) in 2002 through 2009. Cheechoo led the NHL in goals scored (56) during the 2005-06 season winning the Maurice “Rocket” Richard Trophy.
Last season, Cheechoo played 61 games for the Ottawa Senators (5-9-14) in the NHL and 25 games (8-6-14) with the Binghamton Senators in the AHL. Cheechoo began his professional career with head coach Roy Sommer in Kentucky (AHL) and Cleveland (AHL).
He was originally drafted by the San Jose Sharks in the 2nd round (29th overall) in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft. This is the 2nd PTO signed by Cheechoo this season with the Worcester Sharks.
