Checking in with.... Matt Jones
October 15, 2008
Hey Sharks fans!
Matt Jones here writing in about this weeks events. We opened our season this past Saturday against the Lowell Devils. The game was auctioned packed with many goals and a few fights to stir things up. After 60 min we ended up on the losing side of a 6-4 game.
On Sunday, Coach Sommers had the team over for a cookout. Players also brought their families or girlfriends along which allowed for everyone to get to know each other better. We had so much food I was able to eat all afternoon. It was nice to have some home cooked food as most of the guys have been living out of a hotel for a month or so.
I am finally starting to get settled into my apartment, but still have a ways to go. I pretty much go to target every day to get more things for my place and every time I have gone I have seen at least one other guys on the team doing the same. My furniture so far consists of a big screen TV and a bed, the essentials really.
I am very excited for our home opener this Saturday night. I hear that there are usually pretty big crowds for the first game. I hope see you all there on Saturday.
GO SHARKS!

Checking in with... Tom Cavanagh
September 2, 2008
Hey everybody,
It is great to be back with the Sharks for another season, I’m really looking forward to it. Here‘s what I‘ve been up to…
After the season, I headed out to San Jose for the playoffs. It was a great experience to take in all the playoff action and also to have some time to get to know the city. That last game in Dallas was unbelievable, it felt like it would never end…
When I came back from San Jose I went home to Warwick, RI and took a few weeks off, during which time I had surgery on my knee and elbow just to clear up a few minor injuries from the long year. Everything went really well and I was back on my feet in no time. So then it was right to rehab for a month or so, and now I’m back to 100%…so that’s good. I moved up to Boston in June and am working out and living up here. I’ve been lifting with Tom Walsh and Dennis Packard at Harvard and there‘s a couple trainers who help us out, so we’re getting into really good shape. And it’s my first time back to this area since I graduated so it’s been nice to reconnect with friends and former players and coaches while I’ve been up here. I’ve yet to take in a Red Sox game but hopefully that will change in the next month.
On the weekends I’ve been heading down to the beach in RI to get out of the heat. Also, I love digging clams, and Southern RI is a great place to do it, so it’s been a nice way to relax and make myself some good dinners at the same time. I might have to freeze some clam sauce for the hockey season. It’s also a good chance to visit with family and friends from home. One highlight of the summer was my sister Carol’s wedding just last weekend in Providence. It was a really great time. I was a groomsman in the wedding and had a great time seeing a lot of old friends and relatives.
Well, that’s about it, it’s been a pretty low-key summer for me. The season will be here before we know it. I’m really excited to go to training camp out in SJ and to kick off another year…hope everyone’s doing well.
All the best,
Tom

Hey Sharks Fans,
How is your summer going? Ours has been very good. My family and I were lucky enough to get some time to go on vacation. We went to Cabo San Lucas in Mexico, at the end of June. I sent along a couple of pictures from the trip. In Cabo we spent time downtown and enjoyed the marina. My wife and I also entertained the kids with activities such as a treasure hunt, which they loved. We all seemed to have a great time getting away!
I also got the chance to go visit my family up in Canada. I went to Montreal at the end of May. Like every summer, I enjoy spending time up there visiting Montreal and seeing my family.
Now that we are back from Canada and Cabo, right now, I have been working out in the morning and driving my kids to their numerous activities. We also have a pool in the backyard and have been spending a lot of time in the water as well. But like all hockey fans, I am counting the days before the start of another exciting year. Go Sharks!

Hey Sharks fans,
TJ Fox here, checking in with you. I have an exciting upcoming summer to share with you. Once the season ended I stayed in Worcester for a couple weeks to relax a bit and spend some time with my girlfriend Kym. We took a trip to the Boston aquarium to watch all the penguins! After that I moved back home to Oswego for a few weeks but have been very busy since then. My family and I took a trip out to Green Bay, Wisconsin on Memorial Day weekend for a wedding. I played junior hockey out in Green Bay and stayed with a host family, and one of their daughters was getting married. It was great for my parents and me to get back out there and see everyone again. The wedding was a blast, my dad and I controlled the dance floor all night!
Once I got back from Green Bay I moved out to Boston for the remainder of the summer. I am doing my summer training at Mike Boyle's training facility along with fellow teammates Ashton Rome, Dan Spang and Mike Morris. I'm also skating in two pro leagues during the summer out here, one is in Hingham and the other is in the North Shore. I'm excited with all my training and can't wait to get out to San Jose for training camp in September!
I'm also going on a family vacation to Disney World in Florida. It will be the first time my whole family will be together on a vacation (My parents, myself, my sister Nikki, her husband Dustin and my 2 1/2 year old nephew Ethan!) We have already had Ethan on hockey skates so be watching for him when he gets older! Just wanted to keep everyone updated on my summer schedule and I hope everyone is enjoying their summer so far!

This week, forward, Riley Armstrong, wrote in to his fans.
Hey Sharks Fans,
I’m going to start off by saying that it’s good to resign with the Sharks. Well, when the season ended I went to Pittsburgh where I lived with my brother for about 2 weeks then drove the rest of the way back to Saskatoon. When I got home I moved back into my condo with Blair Jones who plays for the Tampa Bay Lighting. But then 2 months later my brother and I bought an acre about 10 minutes outside of Saskatoon. We are moved in and living there right now, it’s on a 10 acre lot of land which half is farmed by the neighbor and the other half is grass which we have to cut and maintain. It’s a lot of work but it keeps me off of the couch and while I’m outside I work on my tan when the sun is shining in Saskatoon.
During the summer, Craig Valette, Jones, my brother and I workout together at the University of Saskatoon with a trainer everyday, so let’s just saying I’m getting pretty jacked and the milk body is slowly going away! Haha! I also went down to Pittsburgh for games 3 and 4 of the Stanley Cup Finals with my brother who was on SportsNet covering the games. It was unreal to see the wild fans of Pittsburgh and now I can see why Colby liked playing there so much.
Probably the highlight of my summer has been Craig Valette's wedding, it was a great time. People were saying it was the best wedding they have ever been to. Craig had Josh Gorges former San Jose Sharks as his Best Man and then Ryane Clowe San Jose Sharks player and me as groomsman. It was good to catch up with the guys.
I also have been spending lots of time at the lake with my auntie and uncle, it’s always good to go up and do some fishing and relax.
Well I hope to have a good camp in San Jose and try to stay there; it has always been a dream of mine to be in the NHL, so I hope to make my dream come true! Have a good summer, oh and my hair is growing back, the curls are flowing!
