LOGAN COUTURE VOTED
PLAYSTATION® “SHARKS ROOKIE OF THE YEAR”

SAN JOSE — The San Jose Sharks announced today that center Logan Couture has been selected as this year’s PlayStation® “Sharks Rookie of the Year” in voting among a panel of Bay Area media.  Couture will be recognized in a video presentation during tonight’s game against the Phoenix Coyotes at HP Pavilion at San Jose.  On behalf of the winner, Sony Computer Entertainment America will present a check for $2,500 to the Sharks Foundation and Couture will receive a PlayStation®3 (PS3™) system with a VIP pack of games.

"We've been partnering with the Sharks for more than ten years and we're thrilled by the opportunity to support local youth and other local community activities through the Sharks Foundation," said Ginger Kraus, Senior Director of Promotions for Sony Computer Entertainment America LLC. “We're always looking for creative ways to interact directly with our consumers and to extend the PlayStation experience, and we couldn't be more pleased with the great relationship we've built with the Sharks' team and community. Congratulations to Logan Couture for being selected as the PlayStation® “Sharks Rookie of the Year."

Couture, 22, has played in 78 games this season, posting 55 points (31 goals, 24 assists) along with 41 penalty minutes. He is among the top five in nearly every statistical category among rookies including first in shots (247) and game-winning goals (8), tied for first in power play goals (9), tied for second in goals, second in points and faceoff percentage (53.2%) and fourth in plus/minus (+19).

Couture has scored 22 of his 31 goals on the road this season, placing him fourth among all NHL skaters. He set a new NHL record for most game-winning goals by a rookie in a season with seven and is only the 23rd rookie ever to reach the 20+ goal plateau. He also set a Sharks team record for most goals as a rookie, previously held by former Sharks first-rounder Pat Falloon (25 in 1991-92).

This season, Couture was named the NHL Rookie of the Month and The Sharks Foundation “Player of the Month” for December and was also selected to the Honda NHL SuperSkills competition at the 2011 NHL All-Star Game.

The six-foot-one, 195-pound center from Guelph, Ontario played in 25 games for San Jose last season, registering five goals and four assists while also playing in all 15 of the Sharks playoff games, chipping in four goals. He played 42 games for the Worcester Sharks, scoring 53 points (20 goals, 33 assists). He was named to the AHL All-Rookie Team despite only playing in 42 games.

Couture was originally selected by San Jose in the first round (9th overall) of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.
