The thirty minute scrimmage was fast-paced for the first day of camp filled with intense action on both ends of the ice.
The scoring opened up three minutes into the game when BU standout John McCarthy won a battle in front of the net and buried home the first goal for the Team Black. Six minutes later, former UMASS-Amherst forward Corey Quirk scored on a nifty tip in front of the net off a Zach Jones slap shot from the point for a 2-0 lead for Team Black.
The comeback started for the gray team with seven minutes remaining in the scrimmage when Matthieu Curadeau put home a rebound off a Matt Jones wrist shot from the top of the circles. In the final minutes, the gray team pressed to even the score, and it looked as if they did when Northeastern University’s Louis Liotti ripped a shot from the slot that rang off the post and into the corner. In the final thirty seconds, black team goalie Adam Russo made a brilliant save off a tip from the crease to secure the victory for Team Black.
The goaltending was strong as the three goalies they rotated throughout the entire scrimmage between the two teams.
Sharks training camp continues on Wednesday at 10AM at the New England Sports Center. The practice is FREE and open to the public. The Sharks hit the ice for their first preseason game at Trinity College at 7PM on Wednesday. Check back to SharksAHL.com for the game recap and pictures.
