SAN JOSE SHARKS RE-SIGN FREE AGENT FORWARD TORREY MITCHELL
 
SAN JOSESan Jose Sharks Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Wilson announced today that the team has re-signed Group II restricted free agent forward Torrey Mitchell to a three-year contract. In keeping with club policy, financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
 
Mitchell, 24, missed the 2008-09 NHL season due to a broken leg. He played in four games of 2009 Western Conference Quarterfinals versus Anaheim.
 
In 82 NHL games with San Jose, Mitchell has posted 20 points (10 goals, 10 assists) and 50 penalty minutes. In 17 Stanley Cup Playoff games, he has notched three points (one goal, two assists) and tallied 12 penalty minutes. He was selected as the 2008 Playstation “Sharks Rookie of the Year.”
 
            The Greenfield Park, Quebec native was originally selected by San Jose in the fourth round (126th overall) in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.

SAN JOSE SHARKS RE-SIGN FREE AGENT BRAD STAUBITZ
 
          SAN JOSE- San Jose Sharks Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Wilson announced today that the team has re-signed Group II restricted free agent forward Brad Staubitz to a one-year contract. In keeping with club policy, financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
 
            Staubitz, 24, appeared in 35 games with the Sharks in the 2008-09 season, registering three points (one goal, two assists) and finishing fourth on San Jose with 76 penalty minutes.  He made his National Hockey League debut on Oct. 17 at Nashville, where he received a fighting major on his first shift.  He scored his first career goal on Jan. 9 vs. Edmonton. 
 
            In 38 games with the Worcester Sharks (AHL), Staubitz recorded five assists and 130 penalty minutes.       
 
            The six-foot-one, 210-pound right winger was signed as a free agent by the Sharks on Sept. 19, 2005.

SAN JOSE SHARKS SIGN FREE AGENT CENTER BENN FERRIERO
 
SAN JOSESan Jose Sharks Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Wilson announced today that the team has signed free agent center Benn Ferriero (FEHR-ee-oh) to a two-yearcontract. In keeping with club policy, financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
 
Ferriero, 22, recently completed his senior season at Boston College in 2008-09 posting 26 points (8-18=26) in 37 games.  In four seasons at Boston College, he appeared in 165 games and recorded 139 points (64-75=139) and won the National Championship in 2007-08.  He finished his career ranked fifth on Boston College’s all-time games played list, 26th in goals and 30th in points.
 
“Benn had a great deal of success at BC and we’re happy that we were in a position to acquire him,” said Wilson.  “He is a fierce competitor on both ends of the ice and has a high hockey IQ.  BC’s head coach Jerry York and his staff has done a tremendous job of preparing him to make the jump to the professional level.”
 
            The five-foot-eleven, 195-pound native of Boston, Massachusetts was originally selected by Phoenix in the seventh round (196th overall) in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.
