Sharks Host Blood Drive on Friday!

Worcester Sharks Looking For Blood Next Friday
at SMG-Managed DCU Center

4th Annual Blood Drive to be held August 21st in Convention Center Lobby

Worcester, MA (August 13, 2009) -The Worcester Sharks and the SMG-managed DCU Center will host a Blood Drive on Friday, August 21, 2009 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. inside the Convention Center lobby. The Worcester Sharks have hosted an annual Blood Drive at the DCU Center since the team’s inaugural season in 2006. The Sharks are providing game tickets as incentive for donors, and the American Red Cross is kindly making arrangements to supply all staffing and equipment needs for this special community event.

“This Annual Blood Drive is a wonderful community event put together by the DCU Center and the Worcester Sharks helping to collect life saving blood at a time of year when it is very difficult for blood collection. Many people are away on vacation and High Schools and Colleges are on break. Unfortunately the demand for blood in the hospitals remains constant” said Adam Edelstein of the American Red Cross Blood Services. “Each day the American Red Cross must collect over 3,000 pints of blood in New England to meet the demands of the hospitals”.

Michael T. Lehr, Worcester Sharks President and CEO, stated, “The Worcester Sharks are excited to be a part of this Blood Drive for the fourth straight year.” Lehr continued, “Each donor will have the opportunity to come out and enjoy Worcester Sharks hockey. With the Sharks home opener on October 17th, this is a great way to show our continuing commitment to the community.”

Each presenting donor will receive a voucher for a free pair of tickets to a 2009-10 Worcester Sharks Home Game. Donors will also receive a voucher for a free half-gallon of Friendly’s Ice Cream and a pound of coffee from Dunkin’ Donuts. Free curbside parking outside the Convention Center on Major Taylor Boulevard will be provided for donors.

To ensure an even donor flow and less time waiting, donors are encouraged to call the American Red Cross at 1-800-GIVE-LIFE (800) 448-3543, or visit www.givelife.org to schedule an appointment to donate.
