Myers has made a significant impact in Central Massachusetts with over 2,000 community events since joining the Sharks in March, 2006 and was in large part of the Sharks winning the league wide "Community Excellence" award from the AHL in 2012. No events have been more impactful than his creation of the “FINZ Fit Kidz” and “Reading Is Cool” programs. “FINZ Fit Kidz”, is designed to motivate, teach, and guide students in grades 4-8. Its goal is to establish a solid foundation of sound nutrition and healthy lifestyle habits. “Reading Is Cool”, modeled after the San Jose Sharks community initiative, is a literacy program designed to promote the importance of reading, both at home and in the classroom. Other programs he has overseen include Rink Buddies, Street Brigade, and Skate with the Sharks.

 

In May 2009, Myers received the Thomas Jefferson Award from Worcester Public Schools for his community outreach at the Clark Street Developmental Learning School. Michael has developed a strong connection with the Worcester area schools. He is famous for bringing Sharks players and mascot, FINZ out into the community in conjunction with various Sharks community initiatives.  

 

Prior to coming on board with the Sharks, the Washington D.C. native owned and operated Myers Mask Design in Worcester, Mass.  He built a reputation as one of the top mask designers, having designed and painted for NHL greats such as former Conn Smythe winners Cam Ward and Bill Ranford, and NHL All-Stars Olaf Kolzig and Dwaye Roloson. During the 2007-08 season, Myers designed the pink mask worn by Worcester’s Thomas Greiss that was auctioned off for $5,000, with all proceeds benefiting the American Cancer Society Hope Lodge of Worcester.

 

A standout hockey and lacrosse player at Assumption College from 1989-1993, Myers served as lacrosse team captain during his junior and senior years. The four-year letterman received hockey’s specialty award in 1990 and most improved player honors in 1993. Myers attended training camp for the Hampton Roads Admirals (ECHL) in 1993 and South Carolina Stingrays (ECHL) in 1994.

 

The Assumption graduate returned to his alma mater, serving as the Greyhounds’ assistant hockey coach from 1999 through 2005. Myers has also worked as goalie instructor since 1992 alongside former San Jose Sharks pro scout and goalie coach Cap Raeder. He is heavily involved in youth hockey and is currently coaching two Midstate Junior Sharks teams, as well as, providing goalie instruction to various organizations.

 

Myers earned his undergraduate degree in Psychology/Spanish with a minor in Art from Assumption College. He currently resides in Worcester with his wife Ann and three sons: Matthew, Damon, and John
