2.22.08 – Worcester 1 – Lowell 2 – OT DCU Center
While the snow was flying outside, Stephen Gionta scored just :20 seconds into overtime to propel the Devils over the Sharks 2-1. Dennis Packard scored for Worcester. Dimitri Patzold made 18 saves in net for the Sharks. Worcester out-shot Lowell 34-20.
2.23.08 – Worcester 1 –Portland 6 – DCU Center
The Pirates scored three goals in the first and second periods to take a 6-0 lead in which the Sharks could not handle. Tom Cavanagh scored a third period goal for the Sharks. Starting goaltender Dimitri Patzold allowed four goals on 13 shots before being replaced by Taylor Dakers. Bobby Ryan and Jason King each recorded a goal and two assists for the Pirates as they clinched the season series against the Sharks to claim the UNUM Cup.
2.24.08 – Worcester 4 –Springfield 7 – DCU Center
The Sharks fell for a franchise record 7th straight game as the Falcons scored a touchdown and added an extra point. Newly acquired Grant Potulny scored fours goals for the Falcons including a natural hat trick. Devin Setoguchi, Mike Iggulden, Graham Mink, and Dan Spang scored for the Sharks. Taylor Dakers allowed seven goals on 26 shots. With the loss to the Falcons, the Sharks fell 13 points behind Springfield for the 4th and final playoff spot in the Atlantic Division.

The Sharks (21-26-4-3) swim in sixth place with 49 points in the Atlantic Division, nine points behind Manchester for fifth and 13 points behind the Falcons for the fourth and final playoff spot. The Sharks have played an AHL low 54 games, which is three less than Manchester and four less than Springfield.
Sharks Bites:
* F Mike Iggulden is tops on the team with 19 goals, 25 assists, 44 points, and 133 shots, and was the lone Sharks representative in the 2008 AHL-All Star Classic in Binghamton, NY. Iggulden made his NHL debut with the San Jose Sharks at the New York Islanders on Monday, February 18th and went scoreless.
* The Sharks are in a franchise long slump as they are winless in seven games (0-6-1-0)
* Brad Staubitz continues to impress from the forward position, adding an assist to Dennis Packard’s first period goal against the Devils on Friday and picked up his team leading 14th fighting major vs. the Falcon’s Rick Berry on Sunday.
* During the first period vs. the Falcons on Sunday, both teams were assessed matching minors for too many men on the ice at 18:07.
* Shrewsbury native, Marc Busenburg, recorded three assists in three games this weekend for a total of seven assists through 18 games.
* The Sharks along with the AHL, raised a 2009 AHL All-Star banner to the DCU Center rafters during a special ceremony before the Sharks game vs. the Pirates on Saturday.

Goaltender Thomas Greiss was recalled by the San Jose Sharks on Monday, February 18th while Dimitri Patzold was reassigned to Worcester. Mike Iggulden received his first call to the NHL on the 18th and suited up against the New York Islanders in New York and was returned to Worcester the following day.

Worcester to host the 2009 AHL All-Star Classic!
American Hockey League President and CEO David Andrews announced that the Worcester Sharks and the city of Worcester have been awarded the 2009 AHL All-Star Classic. The event will take place at the DCU Center in January, 2009. The 2009 event in Worcester will mark the fourth time since it was revived in 1995 that the AHL All-Star Classic will take place in New England. The AHL All-Star Game was last held in Massachusetts in 1959 at the Eastern States Coliseum in West Springfield.
Coming Up:
The Sharks have just 26 games left in the season, 16 of which will be played at the DCU Center, including three this week! The Sharks host the Springfield Falcons on Wednesday at 7:05 on “Fill me up Wednesday.”
On Friday, the Sharks host the Manchester Monarchs at 8:05p.m. Before the game, the Sharks will be host of the 2008 Special Olympics Opening Ceremonies. The game can be seen live on WCTR Channel 3.
The Sharks travel to Albany on Saturday before returning home to host the Norfolk Admirals at 4:05p.m. on Sunday.
