SHARKS GAIN POINT IN PORTLAND, LOSE IN OT

PORTLAND, ME For the first time this season, the Worcester Sharks could not manage two points, as they fell to the Pirates 3-2 in OT in Portland on Friday night.

The Sharks (4-0-1-0) fell behind early, as Matt Christie got the Pirates (4-4-0-0) on the board at 12:06 of the first period with his first goal of the season.

The Sharks got two goals in the second period with goals from Mike Iggulden and Riley Armstrong as the Sharks led 2-1 after forty minutes.

Bobby Ryan scored his first goal of the season on the power play, after a scrum on a face-off deep in the Sharks zone to tie the game at two.

After the Sharks killed a penalty in OT, Andrew Ebbet went coast to coast and beat Sharks goaltender Thomas Greiss on a snap shot from 45 feet for the OT game winner at 3:26.

Thomas Greiss played excellent in the loss, stopping 36 Pirates shots on goal.  Jonas Hiller recorded the win for Portland in his first start of the season for the Pirates.  With his goal in the second period, Mike Iggulden extended his point streak to five games, the only Shark to have recorded a point in all five games this season.
