Falcons Squeak Past Sharks, 4-2

September 28, 2007 - The Springfield Falcons scored three third period goals and rallied to beat the Worcester Sharks 4-2 on Friday night at the MassMutual Center. The Sharks fell to 0-1 in the preseason and will visit the Providence Bruins on Saturday night.

Trailing 2-1 entering the third period, Falcons defenseman Sebastien Bisaillon tied the score at 2-2 at the 9:21 mark of the final frame on the power play. Justin Chwedoruk gave the Birds a 3-2 advantage at 14:34 of the final frame picking up his own rebound on a scrum at the top of the crease. Rookie Colin McDonald provided the Falcons with an insurance goal at 15:27 of the third period earning Springfield their first victory of the preseason.

The Sharks grabbed a 1-0 lead just 1:15 into the first period when Mike Iggulden opened the scoring, but the Falcons Fredrik Johansson tied the score at 1-1 with a shorthanded marker at 14:46 of the opening frame. Worcester regained a 2-1 lead at 15:57 of the first period when Brad Staubitz scored on the power play.

Falcons goaltender Cam Ellsworth stopped 10 of 12 shots he faced in 34 minutes of action, while Robert Gherson was perfect for Springfield in the final 26 minutes of play stopping all 10 shots he faced.
