NHL Tests Stanley Cup Logo on Sharks Ice at DCU Center
May 9, 2007
Worcester, Mass. - During the Worcester Sharks first round battle against the Manchester Monarchs in the AHL Playoffs, the National Hockey League used the Sharks home ice at the DCU Center to test a new logo for the Stanley Cup Finals.
The 2007 Stanley Cup Playoffs logo was imbedded into Worcester ice as a test for a new type of logo. Rather than painting the logo on the ice, this new logo prototype is on a mesh material. Once the logo is placed on the ice, more ice is built up over the logo.
This new technology makes for easy logo display and is something the Worcester Sharks used all season with their on-ice partner logos. The only logo painted was the center ice Shark during the first half of the year and the Worcester Crest during the second half of the year.
More teams around both the AHL and NHL are looking into this new on-ice technology.
