Sharks Defensemen Power Past Binghamton, 2-1

WORCESTER - The Sharks won their fifth straight home game at the DCU Center on Friday night by a score of 2-1. Sharks defensemen Patrick Traverse and Scott Ferguson provided all the offense for Team Teal in the first period to up their record to 22-16-1-6. Dimitri Patzold won his fourth consecutive win of the season with 28 saves.

The Senators opened the scoring with a power play goal at 9:03 of the first period. Forward Andrew Ebbett parked himself to the left of Dimitri Patzold and took a cross crease feed from Ryan Vesce and buried it for his 10th goal of the season and a 1-0 lead.

The Sharks responded with a power play goal of their own just 2:11 later to knot the score at 1-1. Defenseman Scott Ferguson took a pass from Mathieu Darche and fired a slapper from the point for his second tally of the season.

At 16:06 of the first period, Sharks struck again, this time with a shorthanded goal. Tom Cavanagh broke up a Binghamton pass on the Sharks blueline and dumped the puck off to Brady Leisenring. Leisenring made a beautiful pass through two defenders right on Traverse’s stick in front for a tap in goal. For Traverse, it was his third goal of the season.

The 2-1 lead proved to be enough as either team would not tally a goal for the rest of the game. Patzold was perfect with 23 saves in the final period to pick up his eighth win of the season.

The Sharks will next host the Providence Bruins on Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. The first 3,000 fans will receive autographed Authentic Collectors Cards signed by Riley Armstrong. Tickets are limited, but can still be purchased by visiting the Box Office Lobby or by calling the Sharks offices at 508.929.0500.
