Hartford Bites Sharks, 2-0

WORCESTER – The Worcester Sharks entered the DCU Center refreshed from a two-day holiday break. Unfortunately for the Sharks, they couldn’t pick up two points in the standings. The Worcester Sharks fell to the Hartford Wolf Pack on Tuesday night by a score of 2-0 at the DCU Center.

The first period saw both teams battle hard, but stayed even for most of the session. The only break down came just 3:14 into the period when Brandon Dubinsky scored his seventh of the year on what looked to be an easy dump in play. Dubinsky sent a light backhander at Schaefer and somehow snuck through the netminder’s legs for the 1-0 Hartford lead.

Hartford jumped out to a 2-0 lead at 10:56 of the second period. Forward Dane Byers sent a wrist shot in on Schaefer that trickled through his left blocker arm and into the net for his fifth tally of the season.

The only real strong scoring opportunity the Sharks had was with 2:23 left to go in the second period when Lukas Kaspar ripped a shot off the cross bar during a power play.

The third period was much like the first session and neither team could put much offense together.

The Sharks next take the ice in Manchester on Friday night for a 7:35 p.m. game at the Verizon Wireless Arena. The Sharks next return home on Saturday night when they play host to the Portland Pirates at 7:00 p.m. at the DCU Center. Following the game there will be Fireworks to ring in the New Year with a bang.

The Sharks are also holding a book drive. Fans are encouraged to come and donate used books to the Sharks “Reading is Cool” program. The Sharks will later distribute the books to local elementary schools in the community.
