WORCESTER - The Springfield Falcons defeated the Worcester Sharks 4-1 in front of 3,614 fans at the DCU Center on “Black Friday.” The Falcons power play was clicking, scoring two power play goals and adding another just after their man advantage expired. Springfield goaltender Karri Ramo recorded 31 saves, including 14 in the final frame, in the win. Sharks netminder Nolan Schaefer made 18 stops.
Falcons forward Adam Henrich scored his first goal of the season to put Springfield up 1-0 at 4:21 of the first period. Henrich slapped home a Marek Kvapil rebound in front of Sharks netminder Schaefer for the tally.
Springfield went ahead 2-0 with a power play goal at 5:38 of the second period. Eric Healey tossed the puck across the zone to John Adams who sent it down low where Daniel Corso shot into an open net for his fourth goal of the year.
Falcons forward Stanislav Lascek made it 3-0 when he tipped Andy Delmore’s shot in front of the net to beat Schaefer high on his glove side. Marek Kvapil also assisted on the goal at 10:26 of the second stanza.
With a Sharks skater in the penalty box, Springfield went up 4-0. Falcons’ defenseman John Adams was all alone at the top of the crease and he easily sent the puck to the back of an open net at 13:56 of the second session.
Worcester scored their lone goal of the game with a power play tally at 17:38 of the second period. Forward Tom Cavanagh’s shot from the slot found an opening between Ramo’s skate and the post on the near side for his third goal of the year. Sharks defenseman Josh Gorges and Garrett Stafford were credited with the helpers, ending the period down 4-1.
The Sharks offense peppered the Springfield goalie with 14 shots in the third period alone, but could not get any past him.
Springfield went 2 for 9 on the power play, while Worcester went 1 for 6.
