A Quick Look Back
10.20.06 Worcester 5 – Providence 2… Worcester avenged from a 3-1 loss to the P-Bruins in their first meeting with a 5-2 win on Friday night. The Sharks scored three goals in the middle stanza and never looked back.  Forward Riley Armstrong led the way with his first two goals of the season, while Mathieu Darche extended his scoring streak to six games with eight goals and 10 points.  Goaltender Nolan Schaefer picked up his second win of the season with 10 saves.
 
10.21.06 Lowell 3 – Worcester 2… The Sharks dropped their second meeting to the Devils on Saturday night.  Defenseman Dan McGillis ripped a slap shot from the point that was deflected on its way to the net and beat Sharks netminder Thomas Greiss for the game-winner.  Forward Mike Iggulden scored in his fourth consecutive game for Worcester, while defenseman Doug Murray had the other.  Greiss took the loss with 20 saves.
 
Games Ahead
10.27.06 – Worcester vs. Portland – DCU Center
Worcester will face the Pirates for the third time this season and second at the DCU Center on Friday night.  Both teams spoiled each others home openers with shootout wins in the first two contests.  The Unum Cup Challenge is currently at 1-1 with eight games left in the season.  The winner of the Unum Cup Challenge will receive $5,000 for locker room renovations and $10,000 will be donated to a charity of the winning team’s choice.
 
10.28.06 – Worcester vs. Manchester – DCU Center
Saturday night will be second time the Sharks and Monarchs meet this season.  Worcester dropped the first meeting to the Monarchs in a shootout at the Verizon Wireless Arena.  Following the game, Worcester will hold their second “Saturday Signings” with two Sharks players in the Box Office Lobby.
 
Shark of the Week
Rookie forward Joe Pavelski has been nominated to this week CCM/ Vector AHL Player of the Week for his performance against the Providence Bruins and Lowell Devils.  Pavelski recorded three points (1+2=3) and a plus-two rating in two games played.  Pavelski’s goal against the P-Bruins proved to be the game-winner in a 5-2 win at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center.  The two-way pivot has 11 points (3+8=11) on the young season and has notched a point in six of seven contests this season thus far.
 
Top of His Class…
Rookie Joe Pavelski leads the rookie scoring race in the American Hockey League with 11 points (3+8=11).  Pavelski has led all rookies for the second week in a row and leads the Sharks in points as well.  The centerman also scored the game winning goal in a 5-2 win over the Bruins.
 
Tough Defense…
The Worcester Sharks defense held the Providence Bruins to just 12 shots on goal on Friday night.  The Sharks attacked the Bruins in all three zones of the ice and kept the P-Bruins to just four shots per period.  Worcester stormed the Providence net with 28 shots and five goals.
 
Streaking…
Forward Mike Iggulden has scored five goals in his last four games for the Sharks.  Iggulden is second on the Sharks in goals scored with five.  Of his five goals scored, one is on the power play. 
 
Undefeated…
Sharks goaltender Nolan Schaefer picked up his second win of the season on Friday night in Providence.  The Sharks beat the P-Bruins 5-2 and Schaefer stood between the pipes to make 10 saves for the win.  Schaefer is 2-0 on the season and owns a 2.00 GAA and a .900 save percentage.
 
Streaks Snapped…
Forward Mathieu Darche and defenseman Mathieu Biron had their streaks snapped on Saturday night.  Both players had a hand in at least one point in the first six games of the season.  Currently, Darche (8+2=10) and Biron 1+9=10) are tied for second on the team in scoring and lurk within the Top 10 scoring leaders in the American Hockey League.
 
Saturday Signings…
Following every Saturday night home game, the Sharks will have at least two players in the DCU Center Box Office Lobby to sign autographs.  Any fan in attendance of the game is welcome to stand in line for an autograph.  This Saturday night Worcester will face-off against the Manchester Monarchs.

Join defenseman Brad Staubitz on Tuesday, October 24 at 2:00 p.m. for the Sharks next live web chat.  Think of your best questions and get them ready for Brad to answer. The gritty defenseman will be available for approximately 30-minutes to answer any questions you may have about the Sharks and himself on or off the ice.
