Sharks Torch Devils, 5-1, Take Series in Five Games
Worcester Will Face Manchester in Atlantic Division Finals

LOWELL, Mass. – Worcester scored first, controlled the game from the start, and never looked back as they eliminated the Lowell Devils, 5-1, Wednesday evening at the Tsongas Center. The Sharks advance to the Atlantic Division Finals where they will meet the Manchester Monarchs who swept the Portland Pirates in their first round series. Game one is scheduled for Sunday, 3:00 PM, at the DCU Center.

Benn Ferriero and T.J. Trevelyan each tallied twice for the Sharks and Alex Stalock made 33 saves for Worcester in the victory. The Sharks are now 2-0 in clinching games in their franchise history as this was the first series they have clinched on the road. Worcester won four straight after dropping game one to the Devils.

Trevelyan (3) opened the scoring, 10:24 into the first period, when he stole a bad clearing attempt in the Devils zone and sniped one past Mike McKenna. Worcester made it 2-0 at the 13:02 mark, when Ferriero (2), who a night ago broke a 24-game goalless drought, streaked down the left-wing side and wristed a shot over the glove of McKenna. Trevelyan earned the lone assist for his second point of the period. Worcester held the lead by the same margin through the opening twenty minutes. The Sharks outshot the Devils, 11-9.

The Devils struck quickly in the second period to cut the deficit in half, 2-1. At 2:26 Nick Palmieri (1) took a pass in the left-wing circle from David McIntyre and snapped one past the glove of Stalock. Lowell went on a power play at the 8:52 and looked to tie the score, but it was Worcester extending their lead, shorthanded, at 9:44. Ferriero (3) banked a pass to himself in the neutral zone around a Lowell defender, raced into the Devils zone, and beat McKenna five-hole to put the Sharks ahead, 3-1. Worcester took its largest lead of the series, 4-1, 19:00 into the second period on the power play when Andrew Desjardins (2) banged home a rebound off a Danny Groulx shot that broke the defenseman’s stick in the process. Shots were even, 10-10.

Trevelyan (4) scored his second goal of the game, 4:21 into the third period, as his slap shot from the left-wing broke through the pads of McKenna and into the back of the net. Worcester held on from there, winning 5-1, but were outshot in the third period, 15-8.

Worcester won the best-of-seven series, 4-1 and will host Manchester in game one of the Atlantic Division Finals on Sunday at the DCU Center. Puck drop is scheduled for 3:05 PM. Worcester was 5-2-0-1 against Manchester during the regular season.
