2009-2010 SCHEDULE HIGHLIGHTS
After a promising run in the Calder Cup Playoffs last season, the Worcester Sharks are more than ready to take on the challenging 2009-2010 schedule that lies ahead. Read below to find out about some of the heated match-ups, new opponents, and games that you definitely cannot miss!
September is PREASON month! If you can’t wait for opening night on October 3, check out some of the local Sharks preseason games in Hartford and Springfield, only a short drive away!
OPENING NIGHT is Saturday, October 3 away against the Adirondack Phantoms, who will begin their inaugural season as the affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers. The game in Glens Falls will be the first opening night AHL game at the arena since 1998 when they were the Adirondack Red Wings! How will they match up to the Sharks? The game is less than 2 months away!
After a series of three away games, the Sharks FIRST HOME GAME will be played on Saturday, October 17 against divisional rivals, the Lowell Devils. This will be the second of ten games against the Devils, the most games played against one opponent all season. Only 45 minutes from Worcester, these games are a way to get in even more Sharks time! Make sure to get there early as the first 3,000 fans will receive a Derek Joslin Bobblehead Doll!
PROVIDENCE TIME. Friday, October, 23 is the first of ten games against rivals, the Providence Bruins. This is one of the biggest games of the season, after a disappointing loss to the team in the sixth game of the 2009 Calder Cup series on May 13. Providence isn’t too far away, but if you can’t make the first away game, do NOT miss the first home match-up on Sunday, November 15. We need NOISE, NOISE, NOISE!! Four of the home Providence games are on Saturdays. Sharks will be out for revenge!
Remember last season’s Calder Cup playoffs? The first series where Worcester conquered Hartford 4-2, with a staggering 5-3 win in the sixth game at home? Well on Sunday, October 25, the Sharks meet the Wolf Pack for the first time since that game, where they are sure to be revved up! Then, watch the Sharks continue their winning streak with the second match-up against Hartford at HOME on Saturday, November 14.
December brings in the first series of five straight home games: vs. Manchester, Adirondack, Springfield, Lowell, and Manchester. Around the holiday break season, this is a great series to go to with family, especially with the final game of the season against the Adirondack Phantoms!
Only two away games after this streak, there is ANOTHER 5 STRAIGHT HOME GAMES! Both streaks include 4 out of 5 games on weekends. This one even includes Providence!
Martin Luther King Day is on Monday, January 18. Go see the local Sharks away games on the 16th in Manchester, NH and on the 17th in Bridgeport, CT. In appreciation of your support, take that Monday off from work, on us!
The first-ever game against the SYRACUSE CRUNCH is away on Saturday, January 23. Never been to the city before? Why not spend the weekend in upstate New York and catch the Sharks game on Saturday night!
The Sharks face the reigning Western Conference Champions, the Manitoba Moose for the first time on January 27th. After a successful three seasons, the Sharks must match-up against a team they have no prior experience with. This is always a challenge, so make sure you are at the DCU Center to cheer on Worcester!
Times get tough in February as the Sharks take a road-trip with 6-straight away games from February 7-20, but return to face the Abbotsford Heat during their inaugural season. Come welcome the Sharks home and see if the team from British Columbia can compete with our experienced skaters! This could also mark the return of Riley Armstrong as he signed with the Calgary Flames during the offseason.
The Sharks will then travel to the west coast (of Canada) with two games a piece against Abbotsford and Manitoba…. Over 6,000 miles roundtrip!
After the long trip the Sharks play five of their next seven games at home including the first ever visit by the Syracuse Crunch on March 23rd!
A grueling and final 7-straight away game streak pops up at the end of March with games against Hartford, Providence, AND Lowell. However, March also happens to be the month (along with November) with the most home games (9). This is the most home games in a month since the 2007-08 season, so make up for the away-game runs and don’t miss one moment the Sharks are in town!
What better way to end the home season than with a match-up against Providence?? You MUST come and see not only the final home game of the season, but the final and 10th game against PROVIDENCE on SATURDAY, April 10th! Let’s make sure the Sharks win the majority of the 8 games and fill the arena on this Saturday night!
