Sharks head back home in hopes to tie series on Saturday night at DCU Center

PROVIDENCE, RI  – Five different Sharks scored on Tuukka Rask and the Sharks took Game 3 of the Atlantic Division Finals series by a count of 5-3 in front of 5,167 at the Dunkin Donuts Center in Providence, RO on Friday night. Game 4 is Saturday night at the DCU Center in Worcester at 7:05p.m.

The Sharks took their first lead of the series striking on the power play as defenseman Patrick Traverse scored his third goal of the playoffs firing in a loose puck from a tough angle in the right circle that beat Tuukka Rask short side to give the Sharks a 1-0 lead at 14:10. After Derek Joslin hit the post on another power play chance, T.J. Fox broke down the right side and went top shelf on a 2on1 break to give the Sharks a 2-0 lead with 59 seconds left in the first period. The Sharks led 2-0 after twenty minutes outshooting the Bruins 11-9.

Brad Marchand got the Bruins on the board just 10 seconds into the 2nd period deflecting in a shot from the right point to cut the Sharks lead to 2-1. Four and a half minutes later, Andrew Desjardins stole the puck away from Bruins defenseman Johnny Boychuck and swept the puck around Rask to give Sharks their two goal lead back. The Bruins would strike on the power play as Martin St. Pierre found Jeff Penner at the back door to cut the Sharks lead to 3-2.   The Sharks outshot the Bruins 14-7 in the 2nd period and led 3-2 after forty minutes of play.

The Bruins came out flying in the third period, but Thomas Greiss held his ground for the Sharks. After a Greiss save on Peter Schaefer, the Sharks came down with numbers and Jamie McGinn fired in a loose rebound past Rask at 11:39 to give the Sharks the two goal lead. After Rask was pulled for the extra attacker, a wild scrum occurred with 60 seconds remaining as all 11 players on the ice squared off. The Bruins were given a power play and scored on the next faceoff as Mikko Lehtonen scored his first goal of the playoffs at 19:05.   Riley Armstrong would put the game away as he stole the puck as Rask was going off the ice and scored at 19:26 to give the Sharks a 5-3 victory.
