Worcester Training Camp is Underway!

The Worcester Sharks began their 2008-09 training camp today at the Hart Center at the College of the Holy Cross.

Some notes from camp:
  • The team began with physicals at 6a.m.
  • Players skated from 9:00a.m. to 12:30p.m., and the practice was open to the public.
  • Dan DaSilva was not able to practice because his equipment hasn’t yet been delivered.
  • The team was split into two groups for a scrimmage: Gray and Black.
    • Gray was predominantly made up of Sharks players.
    • Black was predominantly made up of tryout players.
  • Gray captured victory, 6-4.
Notes from head coach Roy Sommer:

"The first scrimmage revealed some positive and negatives.  Three or four tryout players stood out, while three or four Sharks players haven’t stood out.  Some players are off to a slow start, but players can’t afford to have slow starts in such a short tryout period.  Players need to come in and do what they do well to make a good impression.”

Regarding tryout players, Sommer mentioned three names:

Andrew Desjardins:  “Desjardins finished his checks and was able to effectively get the puck to the net.”

Matt Burke:  “Burke moves the puck well, and is a good skater.  His all-around skill set has helped him to impress.”

Jamie VanderVeeken:  “VanderVeeken is a big, stay-at-home defenseman.  He plays the body very well.”

Players will train at the Hart Center again tomorrow, and the practice will again be opened to the public.  The schedule is as follows:
