Sommer Participates in Sons of Italy Scholarship Banquet
May 16, 2007
WORCESTER - On Wednesday night, Sharks Head Coach Roy Sommer took part in the Sons of Italy Scholarship Award Ceremony at the Mount Carmel Rec Center.
The Sons of Italy is an Italian Organization in Worcester that awards 15 scholarships to Student Athletes with Italian Heritage in the local community. Over 300 people were on hand to congratulate these fine, young athletes as they make the next step in life after high school.
In addition to the 15 scholarships, three other awards were given. Tom Feraco, a Worcester Police Officer, received the Hall-of-Fame award, Robert Kalagher received the Coaches award, and Jay Lupasella was awarded for his contribution to sports in the area.
Sommer took photographs with the Student Athlete Scholarship Recipients along with Worcester Tornadoes Manager Rich Gedman. Each recipient will receive an autographed 8x10 photograph with the two coaches and their money later in the summer.
