Iggulden Propels Sharks to 7-3 Win in Houston

altHOUSTON, TX – Mike Iggulden scored three goals and Mathieu Darche contributed four assists as the Sharks skated to their seventh consecutive victory, 7-3 over Houston. Torrey Mitchell scored his first professional points in the win with a goal and assist. Craig Valette, who also tallied two assists, Graham Mink and Brennan Evans scored the other Worcester goals propelling the team into third place of the Atlantic Division.

Mike Iggulden scored his 25th goal of the year just 35-seconds into the first period giving the Sharks a 1-0 lead after the opening faceoff. Craig Valette extended the Sharks lead to 2-0 with his 13th goal 7:08 into the period on an assist from Tomas Plihal and Torrey Mitchell. The assist for Mitchell was his first point as a professional. Tony Quesada made his 10th appearance of the year for Houston making nine saves in the search for his first AHL win. Thomas Greiss made seven first period saves in his 17th consecutive appearance for Worcester.

The Sharks, taking advantage of a Houston penalty call at the end of the opening frame, scored a 5-on-3 power play goal just 23-seconds into the second period from Graham Mink, his 26th of the year. The gorgeous pass play set up for Worcester included passes from Darche and Walsh. Erik Reitz answered for Houston for with his 8th of the year, only to see the Sharks respond with a goal 33-seconds later from Brennan Evans for his second goal of the season. The Sharks then increased their lead to four goals as Torrey Mitchell recorded his first professional goal at the 15:31 mark on assists from Valette and Evans. Jason Morgan then scored with just 1:11 remaining in the period to trim the Worcester lead to three through forty minutes.

Matt Foy’s third goal in the last two games trimmed the lead for the Sharks back to two with his 27th of the year on a power play 4:50 in the third period. The two teams skated nearly ten more minutes without a goal until Iggulden completed his hat trick with two goals in the final 5:15 of play. His second of the night and 26th of the year came on a pass play from Tom Cavanagh and Darche, then he recorded his second career hat trick, both against the Houston Aeros, on an assist from Darche at 17:38 of the final frame to give the Sharks a 7-3 win.

Five of the Sharks final seven games will be played on home ice beginning Wednesday when they host the Manchester Monarchs at 7pm.
