Bonneau scores late to lead Sharks to victory
Rookie goaltender Troy Grosenick was superb in net with 28 saves
 
MARLBOROUGH, MA –  The Worcester Sharks (1-1-0-0) won a 2-1 decision over the Providence Bruins (0-1-0-0) in exhibition play in front of a capacity crowd at the New England Sports Center in Marlborough, MA on Friday night.
 
Konrad Abeltshauser and Jimmy Bonneau each scored a goal for the Sharks while Troy Grosenick had a strong game in net, allowing just one goal on 29 shots for the victory.
 
The Sharks came out strong in the first period, racking up five shots on goal right out of the gate. The puck was controlled by the Sharks for most of the period, with the Sharks outshooting the Bruins 12-6. At 14:13 rookie defenseman Konrad Abeltshauser (1st) sent a wrist shot from the right side past Bruins’ goaltender Malcolm Subban to give the Sharks a 1-0 lead.
 
The Bruins maintained solid control over the puck throughout the second period but were unable to score due to a spectacular performance by goaltender Troy Grosenick. The Sharks rookie goaltender made a number of notable saves in traffic. The Bruins outshot the Sharks 13-10 in the middle frame as the score remained 1-0 Sharks after 40 minutes of play.
 
Jared Knight (1st) gave Providence their first goal at 6:29 in the third period with assists from Alexander Khokhlachev and Anthony Camara. Worcester failed to convert on a power play halfway through the period but took a 2-1 lead with 2:28 remaining on a goal from Jimmy Bonneau (1st ) with an assist from Connor Goggin. Despite a Providence power play in the final minutes, the Sharks pulled out the win with a final score of 2-1.
