SJ Sharks development camp recap
SJ Sharks development camp
San Jose, CA July 8-12th at Sharks Ice
By Eric Lindquist
Over 40 hockey prospects hit the ice at the annual San Jose Sharks summer development camp at Sharks Ice San Jose last week with many familiar faces for Worcester Sharks fans. The week was a grueling one with over 10 hours per day of on and off -ice instruction by the San Jose and Worcester hockey staff.
I was able to fly out west to catch the scrimmage on Thursday night (barely made it on time!) and hang out during the day on Friday before the prospects all went their separate ways for the rest of the summer.
Sharks fans (there were a couple of Worcester Sharks jerseys in the capacity crowd!) were treated to the first ever open scrimmage on Thursday night and the prospects did not disappoint with an exciting back and forth 4-3 overtime victory for Team Marchment over Team Ricci. Daniil Tarasov was the star of the game netting two goals, including the game winner on the power play in over time. Matt Nieto also found the back of the net twice and Rylan Schwartz also scored. There were several players making their Sharks debut on Thursday including first round draft selections Tomas Hertl and Mirco Mueller.
During my quick hit out west, I brought my trusty flip cam and was able to catch up with many Worcester Sharks players as they wrapped up development camp. Check out the videos here:

A few side notes:
Sharks Ice San Jose is located about seven minutes from the SAP Center (home of the San Jose Sharks) and the venue is absolutely awesome! The San Jose Sharks have a state of the art locker room, training facilities, coach’s offices, and player lounge at Sharks Ice. There is also an awesome bar/eatery called Stanley’s that is located upstairs overlooking three of the rinks at Sharks Ice.
Tomas Hertl provided the majority of the “ohhhs and awwws” in the scrimmage on Thursday night… that kid has skills! Click HERE to see him move down the left wing and click HERE to see his shootout goal!
Matt Tennyson received the loudest ovation of the night when the PA announced he assisted a goal. Look for a big season for Tenny in San Jose/Worcester.
Lane Scheidl was impressive during the scrimmage… strong on the puck and along the walls… looking forward to watching his rookie season with the Sharks.
Daniil Tarasov continues to improve his game. Daniil was planning on staying in San Jose after development camp to work out and get ready for SJ Sharks training camp.
