Sharks Prepare for 2013 NHL Draft

Sharks Prepare for 2013 NHL Draft
NHL Draft will be held on June 30 at the Prudential Center in New Jersey
With the Stanley Cup Finals in full swing, the 2013 NHL Entry Draft is right around the corner.
Having made just two first round picks in the past five years, this draft should provide the San Jose Sharks with a great opportunity to stock up on prospects. And even though the organization’s ultimate goal is to enhance the product in San Jose, the selections made this summer could have an impact in Worcester as well.
13 of the Sharks’ former picks skated for Worcester last season, including John McCarthy (7th round, 2006), Freddie Hamilton (5th round, 2010), Harri Sateri (4th round, 2008), Nick Petecki (1st round, 2007),  and Taylor Doherty (2nd round, 2009) just to name a few. In total, 45 SJ Sharks draft picks have suited up for Worcester in the seven seasons in the AHL.
Additionally, fans can expect several selections from this year’s draft to contribute to that number at some point in the future; however, it’s unlikely any picks will make the immediate jump to the AHL level, as none did so for the Sharks in 2012. (Christophe Lalancette practiced with Worcester at the end of the season). That being said, the draft will offer fans a glimpse of who they might be able to see at the DCU Center down the road.
As of June 12, San Jose owns the 20th overall pick, three 2nd round picks, and seven total selections. However, those numbers could change in the coming weeks.
With four selections in the first two rounds, it could improve the likelihood of seeing a top-tier prospect in Worcester several years down the road. Logan Couture (7th overall, 2010), Devin Setoguchi (8th overall, 2005) and Lukas Kaspar (22nd overall, 2004) are all examples of high first round picks made by the Sharks who skated in the AHL with Worcester.
Listed below are the seven picks the San Jose Sharks own as of June 12:
·         1st Round (SJS) - #20
·         2nd Round (from NYR) - #49
·         2nd Round (SJS) - #50
·         2nd Round (from PIT) - #58
·         4th Round (SJS) - #111
·         5th Round (SJS) - #141
·         7th Round (SJS) - #201
The 2013 draft will be held at the Prudential Center in New Jersey on June 30. Fans in the United States can watch the draft on NBC Sports Network and NHL Network.
