Bruins score three in 3rd to sink Sharks
Sharks begin 3-in-3 road weekend with 3-1 loss to Bruins

PROVIDENCE, RI– The Worcester Sharks (25-22-1-5, 56pts) kicked off their 3rd consecutive 3-in-3 weekend with a 3-1 loss to the Atlantic Division leading Providence Bruins (32-18-0-4, 68pts) on Friday evening in front of 9,182 fans at the Dunkin Donuts Center. The Sharks continue their 3-in-3 road weekend with a 7pm start in Portland on Saturday.

Alex Stalock was superb with 22 saves and was denied win #75. Marek Viedensky scored in his second consecutive game with an unassisted shorthanded goal late in the second period but it wasn’t enough offense for the Sharks.

Neither team found the back of the net in a fast moving and rather uneventful first period. Alex Stalock made the best save of the opening frame on a nice poke check on Jordan Caron midway through. Providence outshot Worcester 6-4 through 20 minutes of play.

In the second period after two spectacular saves by Alex Stalock on Craig Cunningham and Kyle MacKinnon the Sharks would get a late shorthanded goal to take a 1-0 lead. After Graham Mink lost the puck in the offensive zone, Marek Viedensky (2nd) raced down the right side and ripped a shot from the right circle past Niklas Svedberg at 19:15 for the first lamp lighter of the contest. After the score, a nine skater scrum broke out as things got rather nasty to end the period. Worcester led 1-0 after 40 minutes of play despite getting outshot 16-13.

The Bruins scored three times in the third period, the first coming after back-to-back penalty calls against Worcester. Kyle MacKinnon (10th) slammed home across the crease pass from Jamie Tardif at 12:53 to tie the score at 1-1. Alden Hirschfeld (3rd) stole the puck away from Matt Tennyson in the Worcester zone and wristed the puck over Stalock at 17:33 to give the Bruins a 2-1 edge. Captain Trent Whitfield sealed the deal with an empty net goal at 19:02 as the Bruins stole the two points with a 3-1 win.

The Sharks overall record falls to 25-22-1-5 (56pts in 53gp) and 15-12-0-2 (30pts in 29gp) on the road this season.
