Shrewsbury would go ahead and tie the game at 6:39 of the period, when Adam Twichell made a nice move along the boards and fired a shot just above the face off dot that slipped through the pads of Algonquin’s Connor Henry. Less than three minutes later, the Colonials would score again, this time on a great second effort by Derek Dell’Olio as he put home a rebound at 9:41 to give Shrewsbury a 2-1 lead. The Tomahawks would score less than a minute later to tie the game at 2 on a goal by Matt Tozeski at 10:24 of the period. Shrewsbury would stretch the lead to 4-2 at 3:44 of the second period, when Jack Quinlivan received a great pass from David Belbin and blasted a slap shot top shelf. The Colonials would strike again at 7:33, as David Belbin took a nice feed from Matt Dillon and slipped one past Henry making it 5-2. Algonquin would use a power play to cut the lead to two as Jack Mullin went in on a breakaway and used a wrist shot to make it 5-3 at 8:53 of the period. The Colonials would light the lamp two more times in the period as Daniel Quinlivan scored a shorthanded goal at 13:38 of the period and Joseph Buduo scored at 14:53 making it 7-3 Shrewsbury after 2 periods. Each team had 10 shots in the period as Algonquin still was in favor 26 to 17 in total shots.
After two periods and ten goals being scored, the third period was relatively quiet. Algonquin would score the one of the two goals of the period, as Brian Ward put home a rebound in a crowded crease making it 7-4 Shrewsbury at 1:20 of the third period. Shrewsbury would score the last goal of the game at 13:47 of the third period as Jack Quinlivan added his second goal of the game to make it 8-4 in favor of Shrewsbury.
