Shrewsbury vs. Algonquin preview

Shrewsbury high school will face off against Algonquin Regional at the DCU Center for a 4pm puck drop
The Worcester Sharks will host the 4th Annual High School Hockey Showdown on Saturday, January 26th between high school power houses the Shrewsbury Colonials and the Algonquin Tomahawks at 4pm at the DCU Center before the Sharks take the ice to face off against the Providence Bruins at 7pm. This will be the first of two meetings between the clubs and they are scheduled to meet for the final regular season game on February 20th.
The Shrewsbury Colonials (9-1-1) have had a great season so far as they continue to march toward the playoffs. The Colonials are currently riding a six game win streak were they have outscored their opponents by a total of 20 goals. The Colonials enter Saturday’s matchup as the leaders of the Central Mass Quinn Conference with a league record of 4-1-1. After a demanding 6-3 win over Auburn on January 23rd, Shrewsbury will look to continue their impressive season and add to their win streak.
Sophomore forward, Jake Quinlivan and junior forward, Dave Belbin lead the Colonials with 12 goals and 11 assists for a total of 23 points each. Sophomore Forward, Daniel Quinlivan, is a mere point behind the team leaders with 7 goals and 15 assists for 22 total points. Freshman defenseman, Matt Dillon, has been a strong contributor as well scoring 4 goals and adding 12 assists from the point. Sophomore Ethan Melia and freshman Shane Gorrie all share time in net for the Colonials recording combined goal against average of 2.91.
The Algonquin Tomahawks (4-4-2) are .500 this season as they continue to contend for a playoff slot. The Tomahawks enter Saturday’s game as leaders of the Central Mass Roy Conference with a league record of 3-2-1. After a hard fought 4-4 tie against their conference rivals, Gorton Dunstable on January 23rd, the Tomahawks will look to start the second half of their season with a win on Saturday.
Sophomore forward, Matt Tozeski, leads the Tomahawks with 8 goals and 5 assists for a total of 13 points on the season. Senior forward, Brody Gardner has helped put points on the board for the Tomahawks as well, scoring 6 goals and adding 3 assists for 9 points this season. The Tomahawks junior net minder, Connor Henry has been solid between the pipes this season for Algonquin. Henry has recorded 241 saves facing 270 shots for a save percentage of .893.
