The Worcester Sharks (19-17-1-3, 42pts) head to Springfield, MA to battle the Falcons (25-9-3-3, 56pts) at 7pm at the Mass Mutual Center. The Sharks are trying to break out of a season high five game losing streak (0-4-0-1), with their last win coming against the Falcons in a 4-3OTW at the DCU Center on Jan 11. Meanwhile, Springfield has won a season high six straight games since the loss to Worcester on Jan 11 and currently have the best record in the Eastern Conference.

Worcester is 1-0-0-0 in the eight game season series vs. the Falcons and the Sharks are 35-17-3 all time vs. Springfield.

The Sharks hope to get a few players back from injury on Friday as leading scorer Tim Kennedy (missed 9 games) and veteran defenseman Danny Groulx (missed 21 games) look to return on Friday at Springfield. Rookie Daniil Tarasov rides a three game point streak (1-2-3) and Brodie Reid has a two game point streak (1-1-2) headed into the weekend.

Worcester has scored just six goals in their last five games (0-4-0-1) and hasn’t scored a power play goal (0-for-17) during that stretch. The Sharks look to get their offense going on Friday against a very stingy Springfield defense (2.40 GA per game) which ranks 2nd in the AHL.

The Falcons will have three players represented at the AHL All-Star game as Jonathan Audy-Marchessault, Tim Erixon, and Curtis McElhinney will participate with the Eastern Conference in the 2013 Dunkin' Donuts AHL All-Star Classic in Providence, R.I. on Sunday, Jan. 27 and Monday, Jan. 28.

Audy Marchessault leads all current AHL players with 44 points (16-28-44) in 40 games while goaltender Curtis McElhinney leads the AHL with six shutouts.

The Sharks return home to battle the Bruins on Saturday at 7pm before enjoying the three day AHL All-Star break.
