1st Annual Frozen Feud Clash
By: Andrew Nawn

The Worcester Wildcats (9-1-1) used a late third period goal by defenseman Sean Moran to beat the Northbridge Rams (8-3-1) 3-2 in the 1st Annual Frozen Feud.

Worcester took no time in getting the scoring started as; Jordin Eurenius took a nice feed from linemate Cullen Mars and squeaked one past Liam Drennan to put the Wildcats up 1-0 at 2:26 of the first period. The Rams would tie the game at 1, when senior defenseman David Kolman took a wrist shot in the slot that deflected off Worcester’s Tyler Miller’s blocker and wound up in the back of the net. With under a minute left in the period, Northbridge’s captain Tyler Peabody took a shot outside the faceoff circle that slipped past Drennan and put the Rams up 2-1. The shots were in favor of Northbridge 6-5 at the end of 1.

With little action happening during the second period it took a Northbridge penalty for Worcester to get their best opportunity to tie the game. The Wildcat’s captain Jake Rosinky put back a rebound from an Andrew Throne shot to tie the game at 2 at 8:20 of the second period. Less than a minute later, Worcester then had a great chance to go ahead when Michael Tisdell took a pass that sprung him on a breakaway, but missed wide trying to beat Drennan glove side. The Wildcats outshot the Rams 6-5 in the second period to tie the Rams in total shots with 11.

Both teams had a majority of scoring chances as there were five power plays between them in the third period, but both goalies played stellar keeping the game tied at 2 for most of the third period. After killing a double minor penalty and a 5 on 3 power play, Worcester’ Sean Moran put home a loose puck at 12:53 of the third period to give the Wildcats a 3-2 lead. Northbridge had plenty of opportunities in the period’s final minute as they had a power play but were unable to convert as Tyler Miller remained solid between the pipes for Worcester. Northbridge out shot Worcester 7-5 in the third period and 18-16 for the game but were unable to come out on top in this battle of Russell Conference opponents.
