PROVIDENCE, RI – The Worcester Sharks (6-5-1-1) finished off their third consecutive 3-in-3 weekend with a hard fought come from behind 4-3 shootout win over the Providence Bruins (4-6-0-1) on Sunday afternoon in front of 6,201 fans at the Dunkin Donuts Center.
 
Alex Stalock made 34 saves in the win for Worcester to improve to 6-0-0 in his last six starts. Bracken Kearns (6th) and Brandon Mashinter (1st) scored third period power play goals and Yanni Gourde scored his (3rd) of the season in the victory as the Sharks took four out of a possible six points this weekend.
 
It was a physical start to the first period with James Livingston and Kevan Miller receiving four minutes each for roughing at 2:11 followed by Matt Pelech (3rd FM) and Bobby Robbins (6th FM) dropping the mitts at 3:07. The Sharks went ahead 1-0 at 11:11 after Yanni Gourde (3rd) intercepted a Matt Bartowski pass in front of the Bruins net and ripped the puck past goaltender Michael Hutchinson. Providence tied the score on the game’s first power play chance as Jamie Tardif (3rd) tapped a centering pass past Alex Stalock at 16:05. The Bruins held a 11-8 shot advantage through 20 minutes with the score tied at 1-1.
 
The Bruins took little time taking a 2-1 lead early in the second period at 1:06 after an unassisted Ryan Spooner (2nd) backhand goal over Stalock’s right shoulder. Providence extended their lead to 3-1 at 7:18 with a blast from defenseman Garnet Exelby (2nd) coming from the left point through a screen past Stalock down low. Curt Gogol and Zack Trotman briefly dropped the gloves resulting in roughing penalties at 18:14. Providence outshot Worcester 13-3 in the second period and 24-11 advantage through 40 minutes
 
The Sharks came out flying in the third period registering three shots on a power play continuing from the second period but were unable to beat Hutchinson. Worcester cut the lead to 3-2 with a Bracken Kearns (6th) deflection from a Matt Tennyson shot at 6:26 on the power play. The Sharks tied the game at 3-3 at 11:22 on the power play a Brandon Mashinter (1st) tip in from a Matt Irwin blast coming from the right point. Worcester outshot Providence 15-11 in the third period as the Sharks forced overtime tied at 3-3.
 
Worcester outshot Providence 6-2 in the scoreless overtime period sending the game into a shootout.   The final game shot total was in favor of the Bruins 37-32.
 
In the shootout, Worcester defeated Providence (3-2) and came out with the victory 4-3. The Sharks got goals from John McCarthy, Jon Matsumoto, and Brandon Mashinter - who had the game winner. Alex Stalock stopped 4 out of 6 shots in the shootout.
 
The Sharks overall record improves to 6-5-1-1 (14pts in 13gp) and 2-3-0-1 (5 pts in 6gp) on the road this season.

Worcester improved to 3-0-0-0 on Sunday afternoons this season.
