Worcester Sharks sign forward Yanni Gourde to AHL contract for 2012-13 season
Gourde led the QMJHL in 2011-12 with 124 points playing for the Victoriaville Tigres
WORCESTER, MA – Worcester Sharks General Manager Wayne Thomas has announced that the Worcester Sharks have signed forward Yanni Gourde to a standard player AHL contract for the 2012-13 season. Per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Gourde joined the Worcester Sharks at the end of the 2011-12 season and recorded three points (1-2-3) in his first four professional games.
Last season, the 20-year-old from St. Narcisse, PQ was nominated for the Michel-Briere Trophy awarded to the QMJHL MVP and the Marcel-Robert Trophy for the Scholastic Player of the Year. Yanni recorded a league high 124 points (37-87-124), 70 penalty minutes, and added four fighting majors in 68 games for the Victoriaville Tigres (QMJHL) during the 2011-12 season.
“Yanni had a breakout season last year with Victoriaville and we were extremely impressed after his four games with the Worcester Sharks last season,” said Thomas. “He is an exciting, offensively gifted player that is eager to go into the tough areas and battle. Worcester Sharks fans will enjoy watching him play his first professional season at the DCU Center next season.”
The five foot-nine, 170lb undrafted forward recorded 221 points (74-147-221) and 154 penalty minutes in 199 career games in the QMJHL with the Victoriaville Tigres.
Yanni is the first player signed to an AHL contract for the Worcester Sharks for the 2012-13 season.
