Marlborough looks to avenge loss to Hudson on Saturday at the DCU Center
By Mike Billings
The Marlborough Panthers will face off against the undefeated Hudson Hawks on Saturday, January 21st in the fifth annual High School Hockey Clash at the DCU Center.
Doors open at 3:30 pm and the puck drops at 4 pm. This game will be preceded by the Marlborough v. Hudson JV game at 2:30 pm with the Worcester Sharks vs. Providence Bruins tilt serving as the night cap at 7 pm. Tickets are good for all three games and cost $15 at the door.
The Hawks (10-0-1, 4-0-0 Quinn Conference) enter this game white hot and look to beat Marlborough for the second time in the span of a week on Saturday. Just a week ago Hudson handed Marlborough a sound 6-2 loss led by leading scorer Tyler Kirby’s two goals. The Hawks were able to slow down the potent Panthers scoring attack and they now have a chance for a clean sweep of the season series on Saturday.
The Panthers (8-3-0, 1-1-0 Quinn Conference) are coming off a 4-2 victory against the Fitchburg Red Raiders on Wednesday and are looking to hand Hudson its first loss of the season. The Panthers will call upon the top 3 scorers in Central Massachusetts to aid them in this effort. Kyle Griffin, Josh Hill, and Ryan Azar were held in check a week ago by the Hawks and the Panthers are hoping that won’t be the case on Saturday.
Players to Watch
Kyle Griffin, Josh Hill, Ryan Azar (Marlborough) – The senior top line for the Panthers will play a key role if the Panthers have upset on their minds. Griffin (14g 22a), Hill (20g 13a), and Azar (12g 13a) will be watched closely by the Hawks.
Tyler Kirby (Hudson) – The Senior forward leads the Hawks with 10 goals 10 assists and was instrumental in the Hawks 6-2 victory over the Panthers last Saturday.
Shane Barry (Hudson) – Barry was sharp last Saturday against the Panthers with a 28 save effort between the pipes.
Saturday night will feature the Jose Antonio Rivera Bobble Gloves giveaway presented by Bay State Savings Bank and autograph session from 6-7 pm.
