Manitoba Moose Travel to Worcester for First Ever Meeting
Teams will play four times this season

The Sharks welcome the Manitoba Moose, last year’s Calder Cup runners-up, to the DCU Center for two games, Wednesday and Friday night. It will be the first ever meeting between the two teams.

Manitoba’s 23-19-4-1 (51 points) record is good for third place in the North Division, five points behind the Rochester Americans and 10 points back of the Hamilton Bulldogs. However, they come to Worcester scuffling a bit as they have dropped their last four contests. Over the last four games, the Moose have been outscored by a 29-9 margin. The Moose are in the midst of a six-game Eastern Conference road swing that began with two losses in Hersey and will conclude with two games against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.

The Moose are led by the strong play of forward Sergei Shirokov who has amassed 14 goals and 17 assists for 31 points. This season, Shirokov was named to the PlanetUSA AHL All-Star team and scored two goals in the game. Joining Shirokov on the Moose attack will be center Marco Rosa who leads the team in assists with 18 and also has 31 points on the season. He’s currently on a hot streak as he is 6-2-8, in his last seven games.

Local fans will recognize Manitoba netminder as former Boston College standout Corey Schneider returns to his home state. Schneider, now in his third season with Manitoba, has started 32 games this season and is 19-12-1 with a 2.57 GAA and a .914 save percentage.

Worcester is on a three-game winning streak and is 7-2-1-0 in their last nine contests. They sit in third-place in the Atlantic Division with 57 points, just three points behind first-place Manchester, and one point behind second-place Lowell. The Sharks have three games in hand on the Monarchs and four games in hand on the Devils.

Wednesday will mark the second consecutive game that the Sharks will play a team for the first time in the team’s history. On Saturday, the Sharks knocked off the Syracuse Crunch, 5-4, on the road.
