The Falcons came out flying in the first period but Alex Stalock held down the fort for Worcester in the early going. Colton Fretter fired in a rebound for his 7th goal of the season from the crease after an initial shot from the left side hit the post at 10:02. The power play goal extended Fretter’s point streak to eight games. The Sharks had four power play chances in the opening period, including a 43 second two man advantage but Aaron Sorochan stood his ground in net for Springfield. Worcester trailed 1-0 after the first twenty minutes of play as the Falcons held a 12-8 shot advantage.

Referee Mark Lemelin dished out 13 penalties in a feisty 2nd period, but it was an even strength goal by Worcester’s Trent Campbell that tied the score at 1-1 after his one-timer shot from the right circle broke through the pads of Sorochan at 9:36. Campbell scored his first of the season after a great feed from Dan DaSilva in the left corner. The Sharks would take a 2-1 lead on their 7th power play chance as Ryan Vesce’s shot from the center slot snuck through for his 3rd goal of the season. A huge ten player scrum developed at 15:58 after Falcons’ defenseman Theo Peckham hit Nick Petrecki hard after an off-sides whistle, which gave the Falcons a power play chance. Mike Wilson took a tripping penalty moments later and Colton Fretter struck for another power play goal to tie the score at 2-2 at 17:58. Worcester outshot Springfield 15-7 in the 2nd period.

Worcester got an early power play in the third period, their 8th of the hockey game, and Logan Couture extended his point streak to eight games (6-8-14) with a terrific snap shot from 45 feet that rang off the cross bar and in after a great individual rush up the middle.   Ryan Vesce assisted on Logan’s 6th goal of the season at 3:40 of the third period to give Worcester the 3-2 lead. Joe Loprieno and Kip Brennan dropped the gloves in a lengthy battle at 6:38 as the parade to the penalty box continued. Alex Stalock held his ground late as the Falcons pulled the goaltender for an extra-attacker but Springfield came up empty.
