Checking in with..... Logan Couture
July 28, 2009
As part of the summer series on SharksAHL.com, we will be checking with Sharks players to see what they have been up to this offseason! Sharks players will be writing to SharksAHL.com and keep us all up to date with their happenings! This week, Worcester Sharks rookie forward Logan Couture checks in from London, Ontario!
Hey Sharks fans, its Logan Couture writing to you from London, Ontario.
Although I only spent a month and a half in Worcester I still had a great time and had the opportunity to meet a lot of Sharks fans. I also got to experience a couple firsts in my career. Playing in my first professional hockey game was very exciting; it was something I had looked forward to for a long time. The game was in Glenn Falls and we played Albany. We ended up winning which was a bonus, and I got into my first pro fight (even though I only dropped one glove and no punches were thrown). It was funny because during my 4 years in junior hockey I got into 1 fight total. But when all my friends and family asked me about the fight I told them I got the win easily and threw lots of punches (until the video came out on YouTube) ha-ha.
I had to wait a little while to score my first goal but it was worth the wait. I scored in the playoffs against Hartford; it was a great feeling to score. I'll never forget it. Coming to Worcester was a different situation for me; I had just finished my season in Ottawa after a heartbreaking 7 game series loss. What made it even tougher was the way we lost in the 7th game. We blew a 2 goal lead in the 3rd period of game 7. Then gave up the winning goal 13 seconds into overtime. It was tough saying goodbye to all my teammates and billets from Ottawa. But getting back into hockey right away made it a little easier. The guys in Worcester were great to me from the second I walked into the dressing room. I knew a lot of them from training camp in San Jose, and I knew Jamie and Derek from playing with them in Ottawa.
After the season ended I came back home to London and enjoyed some time relaxing with my parents and brother. We had just renovated our house so it was the first time I got to see the work. The difference was incredible and the house looks amazing now. We put a nice bar downstairs, so we have HAD to host a couple parties over the summer. This summer has been a lot of fun to see some of my buddies that I don't get to see during the hockey season. During the summer I try to keep my mind off of hockey for a little while. I'm a HUGE Toronto Blue Jays fan, so I watch as many games as I can. Unfortunately they aren't performing right now.
I work out 5 days a week with a personal trainer in London named Jeff Van Damme. We get together at the start of the summer and put a program together to help me improve on my weaknesses. It's a lot of hard work, but I do enjoy it. It helps that I have a couple buddies who work out with Jeff so we see each other in the gym.
I'm very excited about next year going into my first full year as a professional. Obviously I want to end up playing in San Jose, so I will be doing everything I can to get ready for camp and ready for the start of the year.
Until then, take care Sharks fans!
Logan Couture
