Checking in with... Jason Demers!
July 20, 2009
As part of the summer series on SharksAHL.com, we will be checking with Sharks players to see what they have been up to this offseason! Sharks players will be writing to SharksAHL.com and keep us all up to date with their happenings! This week, Worcester Sharks defenseman Jason Demers checks in from Quebec City!
Hey Sharks fans, Jason Demers saying bonjour, and checking in from Quebec City!
The summer has been great for me to relax a little after our exit in the playoffs which has left all of us with a bad taste. After playoffs had ended I stayed a week in Worcester getting organized for the trip back home. I was able to make it up to Boston with the boys for our final hoorah, as we enjoyed a fun filled night knowing that most of us wouldn’t have the pleasure of playing together another year.
From there, I made the very cramped trip back home with all my clothes, and hockey equipment trying to enjoy the scenery without focusing too much on the smell of a seasons worth of work. I made it home to my parents Guylaine and Darrell and my two German Shepherds Max and Sheba. For the next week I relaxed as much as possible watching movies and hanging out with old friends.
From Quebec, I went and took a short drive to visit my brother Kevin and visit some of my good buddies in Montreal. Montreal is where I grew up, so it’s always fun to go back to my original home and touch base with all my friends, and paint the town red as they say. As a plus, my brother bartends downtown so the nights are always long and excitement filled. I also had the time to spend my 21st birthday down in Montreal with some of my close friends and my brother, and boy did we have a good time!!! I then enjoyed a much more relaxed birthday dinner with my family in Quebec.
After my recovery from my birthday weekend, I had a few weeks off before another annual party in Quebec City. The St-Jean Baptiste is the national day for Quebecers where they celebrate all day in style. There is a concert with live music from local talent, and it is a night of celebration that is capped off with fireworks and a lot of OLE, OLE-OLE-OLE,OLE’S!
I am at this present time preparing for the development camp July 19th in San Jose. I will be staying an extra week to train with some of my Worcester team-mates which will be a good experience. I have been currently training with Raymond Veillette at the Universite de Laval. He trains a lot of AHL and NHL players and it is where I have been training for three years. I have also been skating with some of the same guys throughout the summer.
This summer I’ve been trying my luck with golfing, seeing how I picked it up this past year playing alongside my Worcester Sharks teammates, as I tried not to make a fool of myself. I’m proud to say I’m down to losing just a few golf balls a round…which is a positive. And, I’ am almost ready to compete with some of the team’s avid golfers.
Well Sharks fans, that’s about all that’s been going on with me so far this summer. I can tell you I’m already anxious for the next season just as much as you guys must be, and I will see you all in the fall!
You stay classy Sharks fans!
-Jason
