The home schedule features 14 weekend contests (13 Saturday and one Sunday). The busiest home weeknight is Thursday (11), followed by Wednesday (five), Monday (four), Tuesday (four) and Friday (three).
The Sharks will play Pacific Division rivals (Anaheim, Dallas, Los Angeles and Phoenix) six times each for a total of 24 games, in addition to playing members of the Western Conference’s Northwest Division (Calgary, Colorado, Edmonton, Minnesota and Vancouver) and Central Division (Chicago, Columbus, Detroit, Nashville and St. Louis) four times each (40 games).
The remaining 18 games in the 82-game schedule will involve each club playing every opponent in the other conference at least once, home or away, with the three remaining games being devoted to interconference “at large” scheduling. The Sharks will “at large” opponents are compromised of Buffalo, Philadelphia and Washington. It is the second time in League history the Sharks will play every team in the Eastern Conference during the regular season with last season being the first.
The Sharks three-way intra-state rivalry continues with the Anaheim Ducks (Dec. 17, Dec. 26 and Jan. 21) and the Los Angeles Kings (Oct. 28, Dec. 9, Jan. 4) each making three visits to San Jose.
The Sharks have three five-game homestands, marking the longest stretches of consecutive home games, from Dec. 1 – Dec. 11, Jan. 21 – Feb. 2 and March 2 – March 13. The Sharks schedule also features three six-game road trips, constituting the longest trips of the season, from Oct. 15 – Oct. 25, Feb. 4 – Feb. 13 and March 14 – March 23.
While there will be no All-Star Game this season, the Olympic Games will suspend the NHL season. The Sharks final game prior to the Olympic Break will be on Feb. 13 at Buffalo and the team’s schedule will resume on March 2 vs. New Jersey.
