Checking in with..... Mike Moore!

As part of the summer series on SharksAHL.com, we will be checking with Sharks players to see what they have been up to this offseason! Sharks players will be writing to SharksAHL.com to keep us all up to date with their happenings! This week, Worcester Sharks defenseman Mike Moore checks in from Calgary.

Hey Sharks fans, Mike Moore checking in with you here from Calgary!

Things have finally slowed down for me and I have been enjoying some home cooking from Mom. After our tough loss to Providence in the second round of the playoffs, all the guys on the team headed into Boston for one last party as a team. That was a great group of guys, and even though a solid core of players will be back in Sharks uniforms next year, there are always some guys you might never get to play with again.

From Worcester, I returned to Calgary to be a groomsman for my good buddy Cam. He was lucky enough to land himself an amazing girl from South Africa named Daneila. They are both medical doctors so I felt pretty safe at the wedding. But my stay in Calgary was short because I headed down to the Bahamas with my girlfriend for some much needed relaxation. Laura and I spent three days on the beach and did nothing but work on our tans. My pale complexion turned a nice lobster red before dissipating back to milky white. I guess some bodies were meant to stay in the hockey rink.

From the Bahamas, Laura and I returned to Princeton for Reunions. Both of us graduated from there so we were able to see a lot of old friends and classmates. On top of the entire University getting together, the Hockey team has its own annual tradition, a golf and hockey tournament. The last time I golfed was with Patrick Traverse and he let me use his clubs. Wow, were they nice sticks, and boy did I think I was a good golfer after using them. However, at Princeton I used some rentals circa 1980’s and realized just how poor my golf game really is. The only question is…. What does this say about Traverse’s golf game?

From Princeton, Laura and I returned to her hometown of Ajax, just outside of Toronto. There I had Laser Eye Surgery at the Bochner Eye Institute. It was something I wanted to have done since I began wearing contacts back 10 years ago and I was finally able to save up for the procedure. It is defiantly worth it, everything went well and it is nice to skate around without worrying about losing a contact. Go see the professional staff and experienced doctors at the Bochner Eye Institute for all you eye care needs. Tell them Mike sent you. (Don’t do that, they will not know who you are talking about).

From a couple weeks stay in Toronto I headed back to Calgary to train at Crash Conditioning. I have been training with Doug Crashley for the last six summers. Doug has his hockey specific training that he incorporates with training given to you by your team’s Strength and Conditioning coach. There is also a great group of competitive guys from the American League and the NHL so everyone is pushing each other.

However the summer is not all hard work and training, it is important to relax so you come into training camp fresh and ready for the season. Every summer our family heads out to British Columbia for a weekend in July and August. Below is a picture of the scrum that is called dinner with Grandma trying to keep order. It is always good to spend time with family.

Well fans, hopefully you are having great summers as well and are as excited for the coming season as I am.

See you in October!

-Mike
