The Pirates would tie the game early in the second period at 1-1 after Felix Schutz finished a 3on2 break in the Sharks zone after a nice feed by Colin Murphy at :23 seconds. But the Sharks would fire back as Lukas Kaspar found the five hole for the right circle at 12:46 after the feed from Brad Staubitz. It was the 4th goal of the season for Lukas and his second straight game with a goal. Mike Moore would add insurance after a great slap shot from the right point as a power play expired. Moore’s 2nd goal of the season found the top shelf and gave the Sharks insurance with a 3-1 lead. On the ensuing faceoff after the Sharks goal, Brett Westgarth and Jimmy Bonneau would drop the gloves and go toe-to-toe at center ice with both combatants connecting right hands. The Sharks led by two after forty minutes outshooting the Pirates 21-19.

Defenseman Mike Kostka would score his first professional goal at 6:32 after going coast to coast to open the scoring in the third period. Steven Zalewski gave the Sharks some insurance finishing a 3on2 after a nice feed by Kaspar at 13:46. The insurance proved to be the game winner as Kostka recorded his second goal of the night at 17:01 on the power play to cut the lead to 4-3. After a late charge, the Sharks held on for a 4-3 victory in Portland despite being outshot 34-30.
