Sharks Supporter and Friend Ed Kochling Recieves Award

The Worcester Sharks would like to congratulate Worcester Sharks fan, friend, and supporter Ed Kochling as he was one of four recipients of the prestigious Thomas S. Green Public Service Awards for 2008 at a ceremony at Assumption College on Wednesday.

The criteria for the Thomas S. Green Awards, which was open to all of City of Worcester employees except department heads, were as follows:

1. Exceptional competence and efficient handling of all assigned responsibilities.

2. Willing performance of tasks above and beyond the call of duty.

3. Friendly, helpful and cooperative attitude toward the public and fellow employees.

4. Volunteer community service outside the scope of job related responsibilities.

5. How has this candidate distinguished himself/herself from other employees.

Edmund T. Kochling, an assistant civil engineer with the Worcester Department of Public Works, is the on-site inspector coordinating the Greenwood Street landfill project. He was recognized for his innovative work in a variety of DPW positions over a 10-year career with the city and for serving as a role model for other employees.

In addition to the landfill project, he runs the city’s two yard-waste composting operations at Ballard Street and the airport. He was singled out for working with neighbors at the Ballard Street site to ensure that the composting does not create a nuisance.

Ed has lent a helpful hand over the years to the Sharks promoting key community initiatives including the “Skate with the Sharks” program in Auburn. He has also strengthened the relationship between the Sharks and the Bay State Youth Hockey programs.

Maureen Binienda, Donna Haran, and Cindy Ide were the other recipients of the annual award.

Congratulations Ed!
