TWiST... This Week in Sharks Territory

TWiST…This Week in Sharks Territory

As the new season creeps a week closer, the Sharks have been increasingly busy as Opening Night is only 30 days from today.  Rookies have begun their training camp, and veterans will report in just two days (9/20) to San Jose.  Worcester training camp is only ten days away (9/28).  With those dates in mind, here is what’s happening in Sharks Territory.

Rookie Camp Update:

Sharks rookies just wrapped up their three-game exhibition series against the rookies from Anaheim.  In the first game, the Sharks skated to a 4-2 victory.  Northeastern graduate Mike Morris scored two goals, and Steven Zalewski added another goal and an assist.  Other highlights included left wing Frazer McLaren’s fights with Anaheim’s Jason Bailey in the first period and Stu Bickel in the second period, as well as Mike Moore of the Sharks throwing fists with Anaheim winger Josh Britain later in the second period.

The Sharks then dropped the second game to the Ducks, by a score of 2-1.  Zalewski scored the only Sharks goal, as Anaheim’s goaltenders stopped 28 of 29 shots.  Goalie Kyle Jones took the loss, stopping 14 of 16 shots.  Before the game, the Sharks had scratched some of the more experienced rookies (Morris, Jamie McGinn, Timo Pielmeier) in order to better evaluate other players.

In the final game of the series, the Sharks were again edged by the Ducks, 3-2.  After falling behind 3-0, the Sharks fought back, nibbling away at the sizable deficit.  P.J. Fenton and Mike Morris both scored goals in the loss, while Tyler Sexsmith took the loss.
