TJ Fox attends the 2008 Erik Cole Golf & Hockey Classic
The 2008 Erik Cole Dream Big Foundation Golf & Hockey Classic was held this past weekend in Oswego, NY on August 4th as several NHL players and our very own Worcester Sharks player TJ Fox participated in this four person captain-and-crew format golf classic held at the Oswego Country Club.
Erik Cole established the Erik Cole Dream Big Foundation in 2007. He is an NHL hockey player, Stanley Cup champion, and U.S. Olympian. This non-profit organization was created to support youth hockey programs and to support children who are suffering from cancer and other diseases.
“I really appreciate my friends and teammates coming out and supporting the Dream Big Foundation,” said Cole. “It means a lot to me and I know it will mean a lot for the kids who this foundation will so greatly impact.”
Like Cole, Fox is also an Oswego native, which is where he started his career. Fox then moved on to play at Union college where he set school scoring records and was voted Most Valuable Player. He was a rookie this past season with the Sharks, where he scored 24 points, 12 goals and12 assists. Fox attended this event, participated in the tournament and even brought along some Sharks signed memorabilia for the silent auction and raffle.
The weekend began with the new 3-on-3 Youth Hockey Classic event, which was held at the Campus Center Ice Arena at SUNY Oswego on the 2nd and 3rd. Then, this year’s golf tournament finalized the events. The golf tournament included John Forslund, Carolina Hurricanes play-by-play television announcer, who also works regularly for the NHL on Versus during the playoffs, as well as many regional members of the media, and other area celebrities.
Some of the NHL players that attended and participated in the golf classic were: Kevyn Adams, center for the Chicago Blackhawks; Joe Corvo, defenseman for the Carolina Hurricanes; and Andrew Hutchinson, defenseman for the New York Rangers. These were just a few of the many friends and former teammates of Erik Cole who participated in this event.
Along with the hockey tournament, golf classic, silent auction and raffle, there were also other various on-course activities such as the hole-in one contest. It was a successful and rewarding weekend for the 2nd Annual Erik Cole Dream Big Foundation Golf & Hockey Classic.
