This week we continue with Brad Staubitz, who changed from defense to forward mid-season, finishing with a team-high 19 fights while also tallying a career-high 20 points!

Season Highlight: Finished with a Gordie Howe Hat Trick (goal, assist, fight) on Mar. 14 at Lowell, recording a goal, two assists, and an impressive third-period fight. In the fight, he knocked out Devils’ tough guy Pierre-Luc Leblond in the Sharks’ 6-1 rout at the Tsongas Arena.

Did you know?: Staubitz’s 20 points were by far and away a career-high; his previous high was six in 2005-06 with Cleveland. The goals came at a fast pace towards the end of the season when he picked up four in the team’s final 17 games. That was after only two in the team’s first 63 contests.

2007-08 in a Nutshell: Staubitz defined a team player when he moved to forward due to a plethora of defensemen on the roster. He thrived, recording 14 more points than his previous career-high while continuing to be a team leader by not backing down from any fights.

2007-08 with Worcester: Final Stats – 73 games played, 20 points (6 goals, 14 assists),  195 penalty minutes, -2 rating … Was second on the team with 195 penalty minutes and was tops with 19 fighting majors … Scored a power play goal on 4/13 vs. Springfield … Recorded an assist on 4/12 vs. Lowell … Scored a goal on 4/6 vs. Springfield … Fought Byron Bitz on 3/30 at Providence … Had a point in second-consecutive game with an assist vs. Bridgeport (3/19) … Concluded tremendous personal weekend with a goal vs. Hartford (3/16) … Had a Gordie Howe hat trick with a goal, two assists, and a fight on 3/14 at Lowell. The two assists tied a season-high and three points set a new high. 2005-06 with Cleveland (AHL):  Signed a three-year agreement with San Jose on 9/18/05 … Assigned to Cleveland from San Jose on 9/21 … Made his professional debut on 10/8 vs. Rochester … Earned first professional fighting major on 10/15 vs. Milwaukee (Brandon Segal) … Registered his first pro point with an assist on 11/13 vs. Rochester … Led Cleveland, finished fourth among league rookies, and fifth among AHL defensemen in penalty minutes with 245.

 

2004-05 with Sault Ste. Marie (OHL) & Ottawa (OHL): Split the season between Sault-Ste. Marie Greyhounds and Ottawa 67s of the OHL …Set career highs for games played (70), goals (7), assists (19), points (26) and penalty minutes (181) … Playoffs: Tied for the OHL lead in playoff scoring among defensemen (Danny Syvret-London) and ninth overall with (20 pts: 4g, 16a) and led OHL defensemen in playoff penalty minutes (70).
